Sabbar Oriental Band was first organized in 1969, in the kitchen of then Potentate Tom Roof and the first President Dean Tillotson, who later became Grand Master of Masons in Arizona. Since that time the band has had the normal ups and downs and at one time had a strength of 38 members. It has been able to average approximately 20 members. In 2001 our membership stands at 16 Regular and 4 Associate Members all of whom are members of the Association of Shrine Oriental Bands and the Western Association of Shrine Oriental Bands (WASOB). Over the past 10 years this Band has been selected "Sabbar Temple Unit of the Year" for 5 years, and tied with one other unit the 6th year. Thirteen of our members hold Life Membership in ASOB (Association of Srine Oriental Bands) & the First 100 club of ASOB. We hosted the WASOB World Championship Jamboree in 1978 again in 1993 and 1999 here in Tucson, Arizona.
We plan to host WASOB again in 2005.
